We all rely on them – Push notifications on your smartphone show which app has received a message. But after the Android 8 update there appears to be errors.
Users report that they are no longer receiving a push notification even though they are turned on in the settings. What can you do? We’ll tell you.
After Android 8 update: push notifications are missing
The problem has been haunting the web recently. Despite the activated App notification button, some users are no longer receiving a push notification after the Android 8 update. Whether it’s WhatsApp, YouTube or Facebook Messenger. Also the classic text messaging app and the phone app are affected. Now this can be really annoying.
Then the small LED light lights up and the smartphone vibrates (depending on the setting) when you get a message. But as soon as you unlock the screen, your phone will not show you a push message. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the app’s icon in the top left corner of the screen, which has a message for you. The number of received messages on the app icon is missing.
Enable push notification
What can you do if you stop receiving push notification ? Since there are several possible causes, there are also several solutions. The first and simplest is that you look in your settings.
- Go to the “Settings”.
- Tap “Notifications” and make sure that the “All apps” button under “App notifications” is turned on. Then you should really get notifications for all apps.
- If you also want to activate the red numbers in the app icons and, for example, want to display the number of new messages on WhatsApp, then you have to activate the “App Icon Indicator” button at the top.
Push notifications for compatibility issues?
It gets a bit more difficult or complicated if this tip didn’t help. In that case, it could well be a compatibility issue between one or more installed applications and Android 8. It is quite possible that this will block the display after the Android 8 update .
In order to find the error, you would need to check all installed apps in this case and update them if there is one available. If that does not help, you’ll need to uninstall every single app to see if the push messages will appear on other apps. That’s a bit of a hassle, but at least you know which app is causing the conflict.
Another option is to reset to factory defaults. Then you have the problem that you will lose data if you do not back up everything first.
